What is something you learned (knowledge, training, skills) during your academic program that you utilize in your workplace and/or current studies?
SWAGÊÓƵprovided me with my fundamental education that allowed me to become a licensed registered nurse. I felt very prepared going into my BSN program and was able to graduate a semester early from my program. I use my fundamental nursing knowledge each time I clock in to work and have been blessed to precept a nursing student for SWAGÊÓƵfor the first time this past year. SWAGÊÓƵmade me a nurse, and now I am giving back not only to my community but to the future nurses they are creating.

My program instructors were Alicia VanMeter, Jill Landis, and John Sykes. Alicia and Jill ensured we each safely arrived at clinical whenever we had to travel long distances. John was very wise, and I will never forget the detailed simulation labs we had during our short time with him. Our secretary, Barb, was very kind and helpful as well. I believe my most impactful class was pharmacology, and I cannot thank our instructor, Dave Brosh, enough for all of his wisdom and guidance. I believe pharmacology prepared me greatly for furthering my education and is a staple in my everyday nursing practice. I hope one day this course returns to the curriculum.
What advice would you give to current SWAGÊÓƵstudents who are looking to follow a similar path to a job or continued studies?
I believe SWAGÊÓƵis worth considering to further your education. I worried I would not be able to afford college when I was looking for a nursing program, but SWAGÊÓƵprovided a way for me to not only get my education but graduate debt-free. Starting at SWAGÊÓƵcan be a stepping stone to bigger possibilities. I am grateful they were my first choice.

While attending Western Governors University, I was awarded 6 Excellence Awards on various papers and projects I completed. I also became a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success.
After graduation, I obtained my Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) provider certification, advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), and pediatric life support (PALS). I frequently work as a charge nurse in my medical-surgical department. I have opportunities to renew my certifications at my current job.
